Sourced from vineyards in Greenock planted in 1932 and Seppeltsfield planted in 1990.
Rich and full-bodied baster. Intense dark fruits dominate complimented with subtle oak barrel nuances. The dense fruit is framed by strong tannins and well structured; the length on this wine is nothing short of ravishing. It is a dry lingering finish combined with lush fruit persistence. It is a Barossa Shiraz that has a long cellaring future.
The grapes were handpicked and de-stemmed into an open top fermenter, where they remained on skins for 16 days. Daily plunging gently extracted the colour and tannin required for building wine structure. The ferments were pressed to a mix of new and seasoned French oak hogsheads for maturation. Matured in barrel for 30 months, before being naturally clarified, lightly fined and bottled without filtration. This wine will be approachable in its youth, however, it will also gain further complexity from cellaring.
Sourced from the Tscharke family Vineyards at Seppeltsfiled road, Marananga, Barossa Valley. Planted on own roots in 1990.
Red-ruby in colour, with redcurrants and blackberries upfront on the nose. The palate displays more brooding characters with blackberries and cedar, surrounding a dense core of graphite, tea leaf and tobacco. The palate provides plenty of intensity, and a savoury character with chalky tannins giving structure.
